5,631,500 Canadians are on the waiting list for unemployment insurance (UI) assistance in the March to 2020.
That is an increase of 12.5% compared to the previous month.
That’s according to the Employment Insurance Canada (EIC) Statistics Canada data released Tuesday.
The unemployment rate for March to May was 7.3%.
The number of people on the waitlist for UI increased by a little over a quarter to 5.6 million.
The number on the list fell slightly by one per cent to 5,848,500.
The EIC says there are about 14 million Canadians on the unemployment rolls.
It says there were 7.6 billion in Canada at the end of March.
